August 23 Meeting Minutes

I apologize to everyone for how long this has taken.

1. Our current balance stands at $1605.00 with a few receipts yet to be submitted by Alex.  I forgot to write down who was going to ask local businesses for needed items, but I have created a brand new TO DO LIST page.  This will be a running list of needed supplies and work that has to be done to the garden that isn't yet assigned.  Click here to view the new TO DO LIST page of the blog.

2. Our next meeting will (have been) September 13.  Rylan has minutes of this meeting and will be posted soon.

3. The fall work bee and clean up will be Saturday, September 29 @ 11am (which is also Danae's birthday).  Every gardener is invited to come help. Please invite any new gardeners who want to help out.  Please see the new TO DO LIST page for all items to be completed for the work bee.
4.  The garden sign contest had only one submission, from Ray Fishley.  The cost was at least $490.  It was decided to hold off until some other major purchases are made before spending that much on a sign.  UPDATE - Jay has asked Novatex Signs (the company that donated the plastic for the edging) to create a simple sign for the garden.  They will do this for free.  I will let you know when it's ready.

5.  Alex will be looking in to a possible shed design so we can get permission to build it from the city and also get the money promised from CHEP to build it.  In the meantime we will try to get a post buried so we can lock a wheelbarrow and wagon to it.  The water taps will also have a lock box.  The locks are now in use at the garden. Alex said he would get more compost, which has already been dropped off at the garden.

6. We decided NOT to use the City of Saskatoon composting program.  If the weed garbage is full, please try to remember to take it with you and replace the bag.  There are usually a few left underneath in case it gets full.  For this year, everyone should work their garden waste into the soil, and we will begin looking at more formal composting facilities in upcoming meetings.  This will need to be added to a future agenda.

7&8. We did not have time to discuss much about the garden committee decision making process or board/structure.  We will discuss this at our next meeting (the minutes are done and already available on the blog.

- Jay
