Garden Update - June 1 2016
I was just at the garden and it is such a good feeling to see everyone's gardens coming to life. With our veggies and flowers comes the weeds. It take all of us to stay on top and try to prevent more spreading. If you have weeds around your plot, please take the time to pull them.
All weeds go in the green bin by the shelter. Weeds can not go in our compost at this time. If you have a few extra minutes help your fellow gardeners to keep on top of weeds throughout the garden. We have a lot of common areas that can always use some extra attention.
Pictures of the garden, conversations and discussions and up to date information is all available to everyone on the google community page. Please join.
Tina found us some vole emitters and placed a couple around the garden to help prevent the mole issues that some of us had last year. Thanks Tina.
Mulch is not here yet but will be coming shortly. Take a look around your garden to see if your area needs a mulch touch up this year.
The next steering group meeting will take place on June 15th @ 6pm in the garden. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Some compost points. This season we will use the 1st compartment of the composts system for all garden plant material (with the exception of weeds which go in the green bin). Material that is larger or more robust needs to be cut down to smaller pieces for it to break down nicely and quickly.
The compost is being turned over and watered regularly and is looking very nice. If you would like to help with the compost, there is a tab on our google community page for compost conversations.
If you have any questions let me know (Amanda: amm417@mail.usask.ca)
